About Ordering

Ordering terms and conditions

The Printery House has been in the mail order business for more than fifty years. We also sell most of our products through religious goods stores. We recognize three groups of customers:

  • Retail Customers (everyone who buys our products for their own use or to send as gifts, including religious professionals such as priests, sisters, and ministers)
    Retail customers are required to submit payment with all orders.

  • Institutions (churches, schools, convents, etc.)
    Institutional customers must prepay their first order, then may request to be billed for future orders with 30 days to pay. We charge 1.5% interest per month for late payments. A contact person's name is required.

  • Dealers (businesses that buy our products and resell them to consumers)

Payment may be made by check, money order, or credit card.
Make checks out to Altar and Home.
If paying by credit card, we accept Visa, MasterCard, Discover, or American Express.
If sending a credit card order by mail, be sure to include the card number and expiration date and sign your name.
For security reasons, you should never send your credit card number in an email. Use only secured web sites such as ours to submit credit card information.

Do not send cash or stamps.

Online Orders

To shop online, just begin at altarandhome.org. You may complete your purchase online with a credit card or print it for mailing with a check or money order. Institutional customers with established 30-day terms may also complete orders online. Dealers must log in to get wholesale pricing.

Phone Orders

To place an order over the phone, just call toll free (800) 322-2737.
Our business hours are 8 am to 4:00 pm Central time, Monday through Friday.
We have an answering service that can take orders 24 hours a day Monday through Saturday. We will not accept a phone order on Sundays or Holy days.

Fax Orders

Use our toll free fax line (888) 556-8262.
You may fax your order 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Credit card orders or Institutional purchase orders only.
Please do not fax imprint images to be scanned. The quality is insufficient.

Mail Orders

Our online shopping cart makes it easy to send your order by mail. Simply browse the site and add the items to your cart, then take your cart to check out. At the payment step of the checkout process, specify payment by check or money order, and we will prepare a copy of your order that you can print and mail to us with your payment.

You may also use the order form included in our catalog, or type or clearly hand write your order with all necessary information (name, address, etc.) on any sheet of paper. Just be sure to correctly calculate the total, including shipping charges (see below).

Sales Tax

Altar + Home collects sales tax on orders shipped to the following states. Sales tax is always based on the address the order ships to, regardless of the location of the person paying the bill, except for gift orders shipping into Illinois from a person in another state.

Some states may also consider certain items exempt from sales tax.

If we are not obligated to collect sales tax for your state, you may report and pay the tax directly to your state Department of Revenue as Use Tax. Please contact your state Department of Revenue (or equivalent taxing authority) for more information.


Please note: This tool will give you the correct total tax rate at your address, but taxes are calculated individually at the line item level, so the most accurate way to get the correct tax amount for your order is to order online or call us with the full list of items you are ordering.

Use Tax

The Supreme Court ruling in South Dakota vs. Wayfair requires states to establish an economic threshold beneath which out-of-state retailers are not required to collect their sales tax. In other words, if a small online retailer has no physical presence in a state and does not sell enough into that state, the retailer cannot be required to collect that state's sales tax. This relieves small retailers of the costs of collecting and reporting small amounts of sales tax. However, consumers may still owe the sales tax, which is then called "use tax".

For retail orders shipping within the 48 contiguous US States, we add the following estimated shipping charges based on the total cost of merchandise ordered:

Expedited service is available for in-stock items on normal business days, Monday through Friday, excluding holidays and holy days. If you require Saturday delivery, please call for availability before noon on Thursday. If your order includes imprinted items, it may take an extra day to prepare. Please call for an estimated ship date.

Effective November 9, 2022, we no longer offer Next Day expedited service.

Bulk Orders: Orders with quantity discounts are charged published carrier rates based on the method, weight and destination of the shipment, rather than the flat rates quoted above.

Certain oversize items require an additional charge. This will be noted on the item page. Free shipping promotions do not apply to oversize charges.

Orders with quantity discounts and orders shipping anywhere outside the 48 contiguous US States are charged published carrier rates.

Orders are shipped using a carrier of our choice. If you prefer shipment by a specific carrier (USPS, FedEx, or UPS), please communicate your request when you place your order. You will be charged the carrier list price if you specify a carrier.

You should expect your order to ship within 1-3 business days if the items ordered are in stock. Bulk orders may take longer.

Even with expedited shipping the carriers do not guarantee shipping times. Therefore Altar + Home cannot predict or guarantee how quickly any carrier will deliver your order. Because shipping is out of our control, no refunds of shipping costs will be given for delayed shipments.

Outside the USA

For customers outside the USA, EU and UK, we are happy to accept international orders under these conditions:

  • Orders must be paid in US dollars via one of the above credit cards, a check from a US bank, or an international money order.
  • You will be charged for the actual cost of shipping. We ship internationally via the United States Postal Service only. Please specify air (2 to 3 weeks) or surface (4 to 8 weeks). No tracking is available on international orders.
  • We have limited ability to understand your order in languages other than English.
  • You may incur tax or duty charges in your country over which we have no control, which may be collected before delivery.

Gift Orders

To send items as gifts, submit a separate order for each recipient, providing the recipient's shipping address. Shipping charges apply to each order. We will ship the order with a packing slip that does not show prices. You may submit a gift message to be printed on this packing slip. We will send a regular invoice to your billing address.
Sorry, we do not offer gift wrapping service.

Quantity Discounts

For our retail and institutional consumer customers buying in larger quantities, we offer price discounts for certain products:

  • Quantity discounts on Greeting Cards, Note Cards, Icon Holy Cards, and Prayer Cards begin at 500 cards of the same design.
  • Icons on wood, Matted Prints, Crucifixes: discounts begin at $300 total list price.
  • Orders with quantity discounts are charged published carrier rates based on the method, weight and destination of the shipment, rather than the flat rates quoted above.


For details, please call, fax, or write for a quote. The online store does not automatically apply these discounts. Hopefully, we will notice when entering the order and will apply discounts as appropriate. If you believe you are entitled to a discount, please remind us in the 'special instructions' section of your order checkout information.

Duplicate Catalogs

We try to avoid sending duplicate catalogs, but sometimes your name can creep into our database more than once. If you are receiving duplicate copies, please send us all the labels, indicating which one you prefer. We will eliminate the duplicates. In the meantime, why not share your extra copy with a friend who might appreciate our products as much as you do?
Note: Sometimes we deliberately send more than one copy of a catalog to you at different times, in case you aren't ready to buy when the first catalog comes. In this case, the addresses will have different codes in the blue box on the back of the catalog. If you prefer not to receive multiple mailings, please conact customer service.

Our Guarantee

If you are not satisfied with your order for any reason, we will accept the return of merchandise within 30 days of receipt for refund, exchange, or credit. Shipping charges will not be refunded unless the problem is due to our error. Please call our customer service number 800-889-0105 during office hours or email us explaining the problem.

For goods damaged in shipping please keep the box and packing material and call 800-889-0105 for instructions. UPS or FedEx may want to inspect the shipment.

Please fill out the form on the back of your packing slip and include it with your return. As soon as we receive your return we will act on your request. Be sure to include a phone number.

Return Procedure

  1. Altar + Home must receive returns within 30 days of your receipt of the order.
  2. Use the original packing materials if possible. This is simpler for you, and provides us a check on our packing procedures. Include the invoice or packing list, or a copy of it.
  3. Please use FedEx, UPS, or U.S. Mail, prepaid, so you get a receipt.
  4. Retain your receipt until you receive credit, refund, or replacement.
  5. If the problem was our error, return shipping charges will be credited to your account unless you request a refund.
  6. Allow two to three weeks for us to receive and process your return.

Promotion Terms and Conditions

All offers

One offer per order. Offers may not be combined or applied to previous purchases. Online orders must be completed before the offer expires to qualify. Shipping charges do not count towards minimum purchase requirements. Offer not valid for wholesale customers. Offers expire 7 days after the start date unless otherwise stated. The start date for emails promotions is the date the email is sent if not otherwise stated. The start date for print promotions is the date it is mailed if not otherwise stated.

Discount offers

Discount offers generally apply to all items and services on an order but not to shipping charges. Shipping charges do not count towards minimum purchase requirement. Offers may not be combined with any other offers or applied to previous purchases. Promotional discount offers are not valid for wholesale customers or for Angel Rewards Club Members.

Shipping Promotions

Occasionally we may offer promotional shipping rates at different order amounts. Such discounted or free shipping rate offers apply only to standard ground shipping via a carrier of our choice within the contiguous 48 US States. Regular shipping charges do not count toward minimum purchase requirements. Expedited or rush shipping is regular price. Extra charges for heavyweight or oversize items still apply. Each shipping address is a separate order and must qualify separately. Offer may not be combined with any other offers or applied to previous purchases. Offer not valid for wholesale customers or Angel Rewards Club members.
